A marked improvement from Sun Shower, Moon Bath shows a more mature Indë, capable of increasingly evocative vocals, lyrics, and especially production. Indë not only performed and composed, but produced every track on this album. It boasts anthems like “ULTRABRIGHT,” the tropical trap-hop influenced lament of a dry spell, and sensitive ballads like “Sorry Lover” and “Can’t Believe.”
Although Moon Bath is unified by more somber moods than its predecessor, there are still moments of humor and contrast that shine even brighter in the dark breadth of the track list. One such moment is found in “Sorry Lover” wherein Indë interrupts the chorus to warn his lover/listener, “Hey babe. If you like the song so far, now’s the time to turn it off.” This is followed by the introduction of a rhythmic bridge expanding on the dysfunctional nature of the relationship (in turn followed by a dense wave of choral harmonies which he gleefully refers to as the “Love Stack”).
The strongest songs on Moon Bath show a similar pattern; they challenge listeners with innovative changes in song form/style, and then return to captivating, lush choruses.
